GGR and hold calculator
Gross gaming revenue is what an operator keeps from stakes after paying winnings. This calculator takes it from the amount staked all the way to revenue after bonuses, tax and supplier fees.
Gaming tax of a market (on GGR):
The formulas
- GGR = handle × hold. Hold is GGR divided by handle; for a sportsbook it reflects both its margin and how results fell.
- NGR = GGR − bonuses. Contracts and tax laws define NGR differently, so check whether taxes and fees are deducted too.
- Most regulated markets tax GGR; some tax turnover instead, which can make low-margin products unprofitable. See the gambling tax rates by country.
Worked example
A handle of 10,000,000 at a hold of 7.5% gives GGR of 750,000. Bonuses worth 20% of GGR cost 150,000, leaving NGR of 600,000. A tax of 20% on GGR costs 150,000, so 450,000 remains before supplier fees and running costs.
